Transport Links

Due to its central location within the UK, Birmingham has comprehensive networks of roads and railways as well as an international airport. The M6 motorway goes straight through the city connecting it with Manchester, Liverpool and London (via the M1) whilst Birmingham New Street railway station is the busiest UK train station outside London and connects the city with the main cities in the UK. Birmingham International Airport is located in the borough of Solihull, which is just outside the city. The airports popularity has increased in recent years, mainly due to its larger destination offering which is now almost global.

Within the city itself, public transport is run by Centro and consists of trains, trams and buses. The city and neighbouring areas have over 60 train stations which have frequent services running into and out of the city centre. The tram system, or Metro as it is known operates daily between Wolverhampton St. Georges and Birmingham Snow Hill generally between 5am and 1am. The success of the system has meant that in that there are plans for additional lines to be added in the future. Birmingham has one of the most comprehensive networks of buses in and around the city, with numerous operators running the services, it means that the vast majority of areas are covered.
