Renting out a room in your property
The UK Government runs a scheme called "The Rent a Room scheme".
This states that if you already have a lodger* or are thinking about renting out furnished rooms in your own home, you can receive up to £4,250 a year tax-free (£2,150 if letting jointly).
* A lodger is someone who pays rent to live in your home and who often shares the family rooms in the house.
