Top tips for listing a room
1. Be clear, accurate and honest.
Make sure you are clear about what comes with the room, what the rent covers, what bills are included and extra. Be honest when listing; don't say that you have a modern contemporary house if it's really not.
When talking about the size of the room, if you are unsure if the room is a double or single then give the rooms dimensions and let the person reading the advert decide if the room is big enough.
If the room is a double then make it clear if you would be willing to rent the room out to a couple, or if the room is only offered to a single person.
2. Sell it
Don't just list room details, if there are 3 of you sharing the house then put up a little info about each person such as:
- Age
- Profession
- Personality
Talk about how great the house is, the local area, how much fun you have living together. It may sound like a cliché, but you're selling a lifestyle not just 4 walls.
3. Add a picture
They say a picture speaks a thousand words, so save some time and add a picture. (multi pics)
4. What are you looking for?
If there are any preferences for the type of housemate you are looking for then add them to your description.
5. Make sure you can contact as many people as possible
Sign-up as a premium member to make sure you can get in touch with the maximum number of people, doing so will put your room ahead of the competition.
6. Location, location, location
Location could be a main attraction for your house mate. Describing your local area and amenities can be especially important for a flatmate who does not know the local area.
7. House viewing
Make sure you put aside time to allow potential house mates to come and view the house. Also, try and make sure as many of the current house mates are around to meet the potential new house mate.
8. Found a new house mate?
Once you have a new house mate you just need to finalise the deal, get a deposit and tenancy agreement signed etc.
